Assab work closely with all our clients to ensure the solution we provide is bespoke and can meet the requirements of their work and the needs of their staff.
The existing accommodation fit out at Guy Scadding Building, Royal Brompton Campus was fifteen years old and no longer met health and safety requirements. It had poor spatial arrangement in terms of adjacencies and an imbalance between laboratory and office space and therefore no longer met current needs.
The project involved the refurbishment of facilities on Level 4 of the building to provide new secure accommodation that met the requirements of current Health and Safety Legislation. Offices will now be accessed without the need to pass through potentially hazardous laboratory areas. It will also provide for modern and flexible laboratory spaces with excellent spatial adjacencies that can adapt to changing research needs and accommodate a new intake of lecturers.
The project also included the installation of new ‘whole building’ HVAC plant which is located on two roof-top locations and will distribute chilled water and ducted air to the new Level 4 accommodation and will have capacity for future phases of refurbishment planned for the building.
The original rooms were demolished and the entire floor re-modelled to include extensive laboratory areas together with offices, administration and write-up space. In addition to the 4th floor works.
The project was managed by Kiley Associates and the project team included : Berman Guedes Stretton, Hoare Lee, Curtins, W&L Installations, Elecro, Henry Riley and ASSAB Laboratory Furniture.
